For people who like the look of a Jeep, but don’t need or want to pay for 4-wheel drive. My 2wd pickup truck does just fine in the snow, thank you very much.
Next question.

I haven’t got stuck yet so I guess I’m still ahead.

For people who want to think they have Jeeps but acknowledge they never use them properly and don’t want to pay for 4x4. On most vehicles it’s a $5-10k option, which is a lot on top of a $25k car.
But I’d never own a vehicle not capable of driving all four wheels. It’s silly.

This will be my 16th winter DDing 2wd pickups in the winter. I didn’t get winter tires until 5 years ago (they are freaking awesome if you can afford them, but I got around fine on all seasons). I’ve only needed to be pulled out once. I buried my S-10 up to the frame in a snow drift like 14 years ago.

A girl I work with has a 2wd patriot. When ever she talks about her jeep, I alway correct her by calling it a not-jeep.

It’s hard to call most of their models a Jeep.

How’d using the wipers to clear off the windshield work out for you?

I almost bought $750 winter wheels with Blizzaks. I then realized my commute is 5 blocks and I rather spend that on beer.
I would get stuck a few times a year in my LS.

I had one of these as a rental a few years ago when I reserved a Jeep from Enterprise knowing that I needed to get down several miles of dirt road after a major rainstorm to get some clients to a site visit. When I couldn’t find any buttons/switches for the 4x4, I figured I was just looking in the wrong spot and got out the owners manual only to find “if equipped” and suddenly realized that I had a RWD Grand Cherokee that I didn’t know existed before that moment. I didn’t have time to change vehicles, so I tried it anyway. Much sliding and fish tailing ensued. Nearly kissed a fence with the rear drivers side fender at one point. One client thought it was the funnest ride ever and the other was scared speechless. I was trying to prevent poo from coming out. In the end it all worked out great. Other than the lack of 4x4 I really enjoyed that WK2. Great ride, decent handling and a fantastic interior.

I agree. Feels better than any other Chrysler product at the time.

I find 2WD trucks as non functional in Canada as 2WD Jeeps or any other SUV sized thing. Rear ending just as many people as the Camrys and Civics... Or in the case of trucks spinning around and rear ending people WITH their rear ends. My Wrangler spent all winter, every winter in 4HI. I had a Sonoma years ago that I used in winter for exactly 2 months and dropped it like a stone.

I’m guessing you live in a much hillier area than I do then. I’m in Chicagoland. We had a winter a few years ago that netted us 82" of snow, and even that was no trouble.

I had a RWD Grand Cherokee for about a month and a half last winter. It was surprisingly decent in the snow, but still a really goofy vehicle. It’s what happens when you build a car to a budget.

Calgary’s not too hill-ish, but there are definitely some pretty icy spots throughout the city. The highways are also pretty sketchy in a 2WD vehicle is there’s any sidewind.
I drove through Chicago about 8 years ago... the freeway coming into the city from the West side was madness I tell you, madness!

Yeah, that freeway is a mess. I live in the west suburbs, but I don’t don’t go into the city proper too often.

I love it so far but I’ve only had it since Feb and it’s only done 6,000 miles between then and now. The WK2 I’ve had just over a year now and it’s done over 50,000 miles in that time. Both trouble free, not even frozen touchscreens odd rattles anything.

Why do 2wd Jeeps exist?
For crusing up and down Florida city streets with no top or doors and “looking cool”.
